Sometimes it can be daunting understanding SEO. You know it is something you need but there are so many terms that go above your head and you tend to get lost when talking to someone about your SEO. We wanted to break it down for you so that we are talking your language.

We don’t want to talk a whole load of mumble jumble that you do not understand. So here are some of the top words that you may have come across and what they mean to you and your business.

Domain Authority Domain Authority
DA is a score that was developed by Moz that predicts how well your website will rank on search engine results pages. They range from 1- 100, the higher score the higher the possible ranking.


Page Authority

Page Authority

PA is a score developed by Moz to predict how well a certainpage will rank on Google. Page Authority scores range from 1 – 100 with higher scores ranking better in Google.


Meta TagMeta tag
Metadata is not displayed on the site but is used to specify page description, keywords, authors or last modified. The meta tag is the HTML that the metadata is contained within.


Meta Description

Meta description
The Meta Description is a 160 character snippet that shows up in search engines to describe what your web page is about. The main purpose is to get the visitor on Google to click on your link.


Alt TagAlt tag
The Alt attribute or tag provides an alternative text for an image should the image fail to load. The text should be meaningful to the context of the web page. Experts recommend no more than 125 characters for the alt tag.


Backlinks are inbound or incoming links from other websites. They help boost your Domain Authority but the links must be from websites that also have a good domain authority.

Internal Linking


Internal linking
Internal linking connects a page on your website to another page on your website. It aids in website navigation and helps distribute page authority. Use natural links that go to pages that are not part of your main menu items


Anchor TextAnchor Text
Anchor text is the clickable text in a hyperlink. The anchor text should be relevant to the page content but also help rank for relevant keywords for that page. This is something to consider for backlinks and internal links.

If your account has been hacked and someone is creating links to your accounts from websites that have a low domain authority then you may well be penalised by Google. The Disavow file lets you chose the websites that link back to you and remove the dodgy sites.
